Bathtub Troubles? How to Identify and Fix Common Issues Like a Pro

How to find and fix common bathtub problems.

Are you worried about the mess in your bathroom? Not sure how to fix it? Let’s take a look at how you can find and fix common bathtub problems without paying a fortune to the professionals. We’ve got some easy, quick and budget-friendly solutions.

Minor plumbing repairs

If you’re not having problems with water leaks or pressure, there are some simple plumbing repairs that can be done at home. Shower heads and fittings can usually be replaced, but it’s recommended that you contact a technician to repair any electrical components. If you have a manhole cover, you can usually buy a replacement for a few pounds.

Do you have a loose faucet?

Depending on the type of faucet, you can usually tighten the nut inside a loose faucet without having to call a plumber. You will need a “basin wrench” or “back faucet nut wrench,” which is specifically designed for half-inch basin faucets or three-quarter-inch bathroom faucets.

First, turn off the main water supply. Remove the faucet from the sink and inspect it. Make sure you have a rubber seal or apply silicone to create a watertight seal. Reinsert the faucet into the hole. If your faucet did not come with a rubber top cap, it may be helpful to get one as it helps seal the faucet. Align the tape so that it is in the desired location. Then, using a wrench, tighten the nut and then the faucet connector to make sure everything is securely in place.

Bathroom Repair Kits

If your bathtub is made of acrylic, fiberglass, enamel, ceramic, or porcelain, you can easily repair any damage. This also applies to shower trays. Check the affected area for small scratches or cracks in the surface. Determine if this area is causing the water leak. Take a look around the tub or shower, paying close attention to any water marks or wet spots on nearby walls or floors.

Do you have access to water?

Our repair patch kit can be applied to bathtub or shower enclosures with holes or punctures up to 1 inch in diameter and 0.3 inches deep.

Fill the hole. Clean and dry the area thoroughly, then spread the paste. Knead it between your fingers for about a minute until the paste turns completely white. Then, shape it into a hole, making sure it is 0.5 cm above the edge. Press firmly to cover the area, leaving a 0.2 cm gap for the next step.

Fill the crack. Ideally, you should apply the paste to the bottom of your bathtub, then follow the instructions above. For fine cracks, we recommend using a chisel or screwdriver to create a small pocket around the crack. Then, use a paper clip to push the paste into the crack, covering the entire area. Check out our online guide: How to Apply Paste Properly.

Do you have a scratch, split, crack or dent?

Whether you’ve fixed the above, or you don’t have a water leak, it’s time to fix the ceiling area. Our acrylic bathtub repair kit is a quick way to repair your bathtub. Simply clean the damaged surface and make sure it’s dry and dust-free. Add the contents of the brown bottle of Part 2 to the aluminum container of Part 1, then follow the instructions on the box. The liquid will harden in 12 to 24 hours. See our online guide: How to use

Helpful tip:

Once you have mixed the two-part solution, replace the lid and wait 5 minutes. Check the solution frequently to see if any air bubbles are rising to the top. If there are no air bubbles, continue with the repair process.
